Looking After Your Athyrium Filix-Femina Frizelliae Generally pest and disease free, although may be troubled by slugs/snails or caterpillars. Ferns are moisture loving plants preferring a shady position within the garden, if grown in sunnier aspects keeping the soil moist at all times is a must. Late Autumn give a good tidy by removing all the dead fronds and apply a generous mulch of well rotted garden compost to help protect the fern during the colder Winter months. Plant in a humus rich soil and feed early Spring with bone meal or a good quality general purpose fertiliser. Propagation by division or relocation can also be done early Spring.
