Bonewax – ORIWAX is a wax-softening agent made from beeswax, paraffin, and isopropyl palmitate. It has a waxy odour and is opaque. It's intended for use in surgical operations to stop bleeding from bone surfaces. It acts as a mechanical (tamponade) barrier to achieve local bone hemostasis. It has no biological action and cannot be absorbed. Individual foil envelopes, each holding 2.5 g and packaged in an individually sealed overwrap, are supplied sterile. Gamma radiation is used to sterilise it. To avoid the risk of contamination and excessive drying, packets should be opened just before use and utilised right away. It is not recommended that the Surgical Wax be re-sterilized or exposed to extreme heat. It has a waxy odour and is opaque.
